Visual Designer (Mid-level)

BORN is currently seeking a proactive and passionate Mid-level Visual Designer to join the New York Creative team.


In this role you will be responsible for supporting the Design team leads as well as the business development team on a variety of high profile projects.


Applicants should have solid experience utilizing key design processes, principles, and trends as well as an ability to work fast and manage your own time. We are looking for energetic and talented candidates that have a portfolio of standout work under their belts. There are NO egos on our team (nor are they welcome), so if that sounds good to you, you’ll fit right in!


Responsibilities include:


  • Assist Senior and Director level designers in the production of visual design templates and prototypes using tools such as Sketch and InVision
  • Lead and present small-scale projects from start to finish under the guidance of fellow Design leads and in collaboration with the UX project lead
  • Gather competitive research and visual/interaction design inspiration
  • Gather and translate customer and business requirements into creative and intuitive design solutions
  • Create and maintain design deliverables using tools such as Sketch and InVision (we build 90%+ of our projects in Sketch + InVision)
  • Maintain consistency in your visual design language by creating and maintaining a solid UI library
  • Collaborate with neighboring departments throughout each phase of the project cycle to drive decisions, reusability, mitigate issues and ensure that business and tech specifications are implemented
  • Have strong interpersonal skills with internal and external stakeholders, including client management


We’d like you to have:


  • A minimum of 3 years experience in a dedicated web, visual or UI design role
  • A portfolio of web-based creative design work
  • Solid understanding of web and visual design concepts & best practices
  • Demonstrated proficiency in design principles for typography, layout, color theory, responsive grids, and hierarchy
  • Proven, hands on experience in Sketch and InVision (we build 90%+ of our projects in these two programs)
  • Advanced knowledge in Photoshop
  • Ability to successfully present and communicate your design work internally and to client stakeholders
  • Ability to create a basic clickable prototype
  • Excellent written and verbal communication and experience using this in a client-facing role
  • Great work ethic and sense of ownership and accountability
  • A detail-oriented approach to project work while possessing strong time management and interpersonal skills in a fast-paced environment
  • Ability to work on multiple projects at a time


Brownie Points:


  • Basic knowledge of agile, lean and Iterative methodologies
  • Basic understanding of “mobile first” methodologies
  • Knowledge of InVision Studio, InVision DSM and Adobe XD
  • Knowledge of creating advanced prototype animation in tools such as Principal, Flinto and Proto.io (or similar)
  • Knowledge of how to create and maintain a design system
  • Experience leading UX Workshops using Design Sprint methodologies (or similar)
  • Proficiency in Keynote
  • Experience creating GIFs or cinemagraphs
  • Experience with photography or videography content creation
