Mail Newspapers Group produce some of the UK’s most iconic daily newspapers; The Daily Mail, the Independent, iPaper, the Evening Standard and the Metro. Along side each newspaper, Mail News Group also publish a full range of colour supplements and magazines, including; ES, You, Weekend and TV week.
Through a differing speed of growth, a change in consumer buying patterns and in-house legacy workflows, Mail Newspapers Group found themselves with a multitude of workflows and quality standards.
Mail Newspapers Group first approached Born, to assess its in-house reprographic workflows and make recommendations on best practice solutions. Following a series of presentations and recommendations, the senior management of Mail Newspapers Group took the decision to transfer all Newspaper, Supplement and Magazine production to Born.
Born were required to take responsibility for all staffing, which we led through a complex TUPE process, all image production, colour sensitive retouching and image cut outs. A new series of exacting service level agreements were created and a monthly measurement process put in place.
Due to the high level of security surrounding the medium that is the news, Born implemented a dedicated transfer line between both parties, guaranteeing content integrity and improvement on image lead-times back to client. Born now manages over 6000 images a week, to an astonishing SLA of 15 minutes per image, including file transfer between both parties.
Mail Newspapers Group were extremely pleased with the seamless transition and new guarantees on both quality and speed, and have subsequently expanded the relationship to encompass Irish publications.
